Members of the Syrian Women’s Advisory Board in Europe

Members of the Syrian Women’s Advisory Board, affiliated with the United Nations, visited Austria and held various meetings. Their visit will conclude next week.

The Syrian Women’s Advisory Board, established under the United Nations, visited Austria on 28 September. Fourteen members of the board took part in the visit organized by the UN. Among them was a representative of Kongra Star.

According to information from board members, a meeting was held with the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Political and economic issues were discussed during the meeting.

The topic of federalism also came up. The discussions were conducted mostly in the form of an informative training session, addressing the historical establishment of federal systems and how they have evolved to their present state.

The talks also focused on Syria’s political situation. European countries that had experienced wars and internal conflicts shared both their successes and failures. In addition, a meeting was held with labor rights protection chambers concerning workers’ rights.

The board members, who will not be visiting any other countries, will complete their visit next week.

The Syrian Women’s Advisory Board was established by the United Nations in 2016. At that time, it was composed of 20 women. In 2024, it was renewed, and 15 women were selected as members. The chosen women are required to be decision-makers in Syrian society, to have worked in women’s institutions and organizations, and to represent different backgrounds and faiths.

The board is made up of 3 Kurdish women (one of them Yazidi), 2 Alawite, 2 Armenian, 2 Druze women, and members from Arab components. Its mission is defined as conveying the situation of women and components in Syria to the relevant bodies in the political and social fields.
