In a statement expressing concern over the rising tensions in Syria, especially along the coast and in Suweyda, the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria warned that targeting civilians and protesters would push the country into a new wave of violence.
The statement said that attacks on demonstrators demanding their legitimate rights, and the use of armed groups under names such as “Tribal Army” and “Tribal Forces,” constitute a systematic crime aimed at undermining internal peace and sowing discord among Syrians.
The Autonomous Administration said it stands with the hopes of people in all regions of Syria and supports their peaceful demands for freedom, justice, and equality, adding that “the only way to overcome the current phase and the growing chaos engulfing the country is through political and peaceful dialogue.”
Calling on the Transitional Government to respect the will of the people and to end violence against civilians, the Administration warned that the dangerous escalation in Homs, the coast, and Suweyda would have “serious consequences” for the country’s future and for efforts to build a decentralized democratic state.
The statement described the repeated attacks on civilians as “a violation of humanitarian values” and called for an end to hate speech that divides the social mosaic.
The Autonomous Administration said its proposed solution is “peace, dialogue, solidarity among Syrians, and the creation of a decentralized democratic Syria.”
