As the repercussions of the Turkish Parliamentary Commission's visit to Abdullah Öcalan on Imrali Island on November 24 continue, Ilham Ehmed, Co-Chair of the Foreign Relations Department of the Democratic Autonomous Administiration of North and East Syria (DAANES), assessed the meeting's impact on the region for Numedia24. Ehmed described the visit as a “historic step” and emphasized the need to continue the dialogue process for the resolution of the Kurdish issue.

The topics of the Imrali meeting are reported to include the Rojava issue and the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into the Syrian army. Ehmed stated that they as the Kurds in Syria have comprehensive solution projects, adding, “As for the impact of this process on Rojava and all of Syria, we can definitely say that it has been positive.”

Ehmed continued, “In this historic period, as Kurds in Rojava and even all peoples in Syria, we have a comprehensive and clear project to resolve the Kurdish issue and democratize Syria. We have believed in this project from the very beginning, and none of our efforts toward a solution are directed against Turkey.”

“We can even say that this project will protect our common interests with Turkey,” adding, “In this context, we, as the Kurds of Rojava, are determined to reach an agreement on a solution,” she added.

Speaking about the allegations that Abdullah Öcalan sent a message to the SDF calling for a “laying down of arms,” Ilham Ehmed said that the issue concerned not only the SDF, but also the Anti-ISIS Coalition and the Damascus administration: “This situation concerns the transitional Damascus government and our international partners as much as it concerns us. We must not forget the obligations of the parties in this regard. The process of military and political integration with the interim Damascus government is ongoing, and we are close to reaching a significant agreement on this issue. However, negotiations on the details are continuing.”

Ilham Ehmed emphasized the urgency of the return of Syrian refugees in Turkey and the opening of border crossings, stating that the Rojava administration is in contact with Ankara regarding the opening of the Nusaybin-Qamishlo crossing and is determined to achieve this.

Ehmed stated that one of the effects of the peace process is the opening of new channels of dialogue among Kurdish political actors (PKK, KDP, PUK, SDF, ENKS, DEM Party, etc.), adding, "All Kurdish forces now believe that the opportunities arising in this historic period should not be wasted. The time has come for all Kurdish forces to form a united will and take on their historic mission to resolve the Kurdish issue and democratize the Middle East."
