The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria released a written statement regarding the attacks carried out by forces affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government on the Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyah neighborhoods of Aleppo. The Administration described the assaults as "a continuation of policies of oppression and tyranny."
A violation of the rights of the people of Afrin
The statement said: "As the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, we condemn the attacks launched by groups affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government against the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah neighborhoods. These attacks are a blatant violation of the rights of the people of Afrin, who were forcibly displaced and are now being subjected to severe repression by groups under the Interim Government’s control.”
This mentality is dragging Syria toward destruction
The statement added: "The attacks on Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah are a continuation of the racist actions and divisive policies pursued by the Interim Government. It is clear that they have learned nothing from what has happened along the coastal region or in Sweida. The same forces and the same mindset are driving Syria toward irreversible catastrophe and ruin.
We therefore call on all freedom-loving and patriotic Syrians to stand in solidarity with our people in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah neighborhoods. We also urge Syria’s democratic forces, international organizations, and the international community to put an end to the policies pursued by the Syrian Interim Government.
What is happening today confirms that there is no serious effort to find a comprehensive solution to unresolved national issues, and it is clear that some parties continue to rely on the language of weapons and internal conflict instead of constructive dialogue and joint efforts to build a democratic and pluralistic Syria for all."
A call to support legitimate resistance
The statement continued: "As the Democratic Autonomous Administration, we strongly condemn these attacks and hold the aggressors responsible for the resulting humanitarian and political disasters. We call on the people of North and East Syria to take a national and moral stand, to stand beside our brothers and sisters in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah, and to support their legitimate resistance against these assaults."
A call to the peoples of Syria
The Autonomous Administration called "on the peoples of Syria, in all their components, to stand against anyone who seeks to sow discord among the peoples of the country and to ensure that past tragedies are never repeated.
The only path to ending the Syrian crisis is peace and a democratic solution. Targeting civilians and safe areas will bring nothing but further destruction."
